Our Vision

Our vision is an inclusive livable community with housing, transportation, social opportunities, and services that support the well-being of citizens of all ages.



Priority Areas

Housing

  • Facilitate community education on universal design

  • Mobilize volunteers to assist with minor home projects and modifications

Transportation

  • Assess and identify gaps in currently available transportation options for individuals with mobility challenges

  • Work with community partners to advocate for transportation options that better serve individuals with mobility challenges

Social Participation and Inclusion

  • Increase the number of Blue Shirt Bunch volunteers and events where. Blue Shirt volunteers are present

  • Grow relationship with the Oxford Free Press as an outlet for communicating with diverse community members

Health and Wellness Services

  • Provide support and outreach for the Butler County Elderly Services Program (ESP) Levy renewal campaign

  • Partner with organizations collecting health and community needs data to ensure that older adults are represented and reflected

Organizational Goals

1.Increase community awareness of age-friendly principles and engagement with Age-Friendly Oxford

  • Host AFO table at community events

  • Share age-friendly information and education opportunities through AFO listserv and social media channels

  • Increase focused outreach efforts to Hanover, Milford, Oxford, and Reily townships and underserved community members

2. Ensure that local efforts to address the Domains of Livability include an age-friendly perspective

  • Identify existing community efforts to address the Domains of Livability

  • Embed AFO Leadership Team and Community Advisory Group members within community efforts to address the Domains of Livability

3. Facilitate opportunities for intergenerational interactions in the Greater Oxford Area

  • Host Community Conversations to engage community members in discussions on topics that affect all ages

  • Partner with Talawanda School District to identify opportunities to connect older adults with elementary, middle, and high school students

  • Increase Miami University student involvement in community initiatives supporting older adults

4. Increase opportunities for older adults to utilize Miami University resources

  • Engage university leadership in discussions regarding parking accessibility and cost concerns

  • Increase community awareness of the Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) and Ohio’s 60+ Program

  • Support Miami University’s Age-Friendly University initiative
